Green Offices: Tailored Actions for Sustainable Workplaces

Upscaling and mainstreaming Green Office (GO) lifestyles in Vietnam

Download Summary

It is estimated that nearly half of Vietnam’s electricity is used by small and medium-sized companies and service providers. To illustrate, an office with around 60 employees can produce over 80 tonnes of CO2 per year. If Vietnam is to meet its commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement, its offices must become more energy efficient.

To help, this project developed tools, best practices, and standards that companies can use to reduce their carbon footprints. It also trained trainers and auditors, who then worked with companies to plan and implement custom action plans. These plans  included ways to reduce energy and water use, tips for increasing recycling and decreasing the use of paper, and recommendations for choosing energy-efficient office equipment.

The project also developed a Green Office certification scheme.

If adopted by the federal government, the project believes its guidelines and criteria can contribute to a 20 % reduction in carbon emissions.
