Papua New Guinea is a country steeped in the traditional culture of the South Pacific. But rapid urbanisation and industrialisation are threatening these traditions and the island’s environment. This project aims to help rural communities continue their traditional lifestyles and maintain a relationship with their land and its resources.
Through workshops and direct community engagement, the ongoing pilot hopes to successfully demonstrate a “Sustainable livelihoods–Sustainable landscapes” model in areas experiencing increased pressures on forests and land degradation. More importantly, target communities are getting the support and information they need to conserve their environments and improve their standard of living using local resources in sustainable ways.
