Promoting Household Energy Conservation in Thailand

Home energy audit and feedback services for household energy saving

Download Summary

Thailand has very ambitious targets for reducing household energy use. However, many residents don’t realize that adopting simple energy-saving practices and using energy-efficient appliances will not only help the country achieve its targets, it could also help them save money.

To encourage the uptake of an energy-efficient lifestyle, this project provided households with tailored information on energy use. Using a database on household energy use, the project compared the energy consumption of 50 households with that of similar households. The project also conducted home energy audits that provided homeowners information on both energy use and energy-saving measures.

Not only did these initiatives increase general awareness about energy efficiency, but they also helped motivate behavioral changes. In fact, 70 % of participating households said they were now more aware of energy efficiency opportunities, while 93 % noted that they intended to make energy-saving changes within their homes.

Take a look at the project summary (above) to see data on energy saved.
